Hiking enthusiasts will find an extensive hiking network with a multitude of rustic alpine huts in Avelengo/Hafling. We offer regular guided hotel hikes for anyone who would rather experience hiking on the Avelengo/Hafling plateau in a group. The hotel owner Alois will take you to the most beautiful spots in the area with a great deal of wit and humour and tell you anecdotes from his life as a hiking guide and hotelier in Avelengo/Hafling. Numerous guided tours are also offered by Avelengo/Hafling Tourism Association.
Tip: As an alternative to traditional hiking in Avelengo/Hafling near Merano/Meran, we also recommend a visit to the Verano/Vöran-Avelengo/Hafling Nordic Walking park. Here you will find seven well signposted routes with lots of tips for keeping fit!
Some of the hikes we particularly recommend to our guests are the Three Alpine Pastures Hike, the route to Sulfner Pond, Kratzberg Lake and, of course, the Knottenkino viewpoint. For families, the Haflinger Adventure Trail is a great alternative. More experienced hikers looking for impressive panoramic views should consider the Ifinger or a hike to Kuhleiten Hut.
Our tip for a half-day hike
If you only have half a day, a hike to Leadner Alm is a good choice. From the village of Hafling, it takes about one hour to reach the alpine pasture; at a leisurely pace, you should allow around 2–2.5 hours for the round trip. This leaves plenty of time for a stop at the mountain hut and a relaxing afternoon back at Sonnenheim.
