The most beautiful excursions for families in South Tyrol

Places of interest for all ages in and around Avelengo/Hafling

Hotel Sonnenheim is the ideal starting point for hikes and bike tours to numerous excursion destinations for families in South Tyrol. Various leisurely alpine hikes start right on the hotel doorstep. One of these is the Haflinger Horse Trail or Avelengo/Hafling Experience Trail, which leads from Avelengo/Hafling to St. Kathrein. This exciting adventure hike for the whole family is dedicated to the good-natured Haflinger horses with a blond mane, which – as the name suggests – are at home here. Find out more about the Haflinger horses at the various stations along the trail or at the riding stables in Avelengo/Hafling!

Visit one of the nearby castles too. Our tip: Check out historic Castel Tirolo/SchlossTyrol and experience a bird-of-prey show at the local bird care centre! For plant lovers we recommend a trip to the Raffeiner Orchideenwelt between Gargazzone/Gargazon and Vilpiano/Vilpian or to the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle in Merano/Meran. In winter, the nearby ski and recreational mountain Merano/Meran 2000 is probably the most popular excursion destination for families in South Tyrol with its outdoor kids park, year-round roller-coaster ride and many other highlights!

If you’d prefer to relax for a day at the hotel, we recommend a visit to the Family Spa. Here you will find various saunas, a Kneipp facility, a cosy relaxation room and an indoor swimming pool with whirlpool and a pleasant 32° C. After all these wonderful experiences and excursion destinations for families, our South Tyrolean dishes taste particularly good. We have thought of your little treasures here too: children choose their favourite food from Wiener schnitzel, spaghetti Bolognese, French fries etc.! And one more tip: all kinds of funny highlights await our little guests in the hotel’s own play corner, including painting sets, a children's computer and table football.
